Frequently Asked Questions
How to take Oregano essential oil internally?
  • Edens Garden does not recommend ingesting essential oils, especially Oregano because its spice is extremely hot and highly potent. We recommend using Oregano topically, with a diffuser or steam inhaled - preferably blended with gentler oils to offset its strength. If you desire to ingest the oils we highly suggest using them only under the supervision of a certified aromatherapist and/or physician. The safest way recommended by trained aromatherapists is by creating a capsule by combining 1 drop of essential oil and topping the veggie capsule off with an edible carrier oil such as olive oil. Always take extreme caution when ingesting essential oils since essential oils are extremely potent and concentrated and can cause burns on the esophagus and ulcers in the digestive tract.
How to use Oregano essential oil?
  • One of the best ways is to either use it in DIY cleaning products or diffuse this oil with other gentler germ-killing oils to purify the air and your home when others are sick around you. It can also be added to a DIY hand cleanser or hand sanitizer well diluted with aloe vera gel and other essential oils. During cold and flu season, support the breath and boost the immune system by making a massage oil blend with a carrier oil such as jojoba oil and massage it onto your chest/sternum area and neck area to soothe a sore throat - try blending it with Lemon and Sandalwood.
Is oil of oregano the same as Oregano essential oil?
  • The two products are not the same thing. Oil of Oregano is an base oil infused with a concoction of herbal material (oregano leaf) and a carrier oil such as Olive Oil. Essential oils on the other hand must be made using a steam distillation process to extract the oil from the plant material and its end product is much more concentrated and potent. Oil of Oregano is used by some people to ingest with veggie caps for wellness when they are feeling ill and to ward off sickness. It is not recommended to take Oregano essential oil internally as it can cause havoc on the digestive tract. On the other hand, people do ingest Oil of Oregano internally which Edens Garden does not recommend unless you are under the care of a trained aromatherapist. If you are inclined to ingest it, it is safest with the oil placed in veggie caps to protect the esophagus from irritation.
What does Oregano essential oil do?
  • Oregano essential oil, known by its Latin name, Origanum vulgare, is recognized for its activity as an antimicrobial, antiviral and antifungal. Studies have demonstrated that the compounds found in Oregano are also a potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic and cancer suppressor agents. Added to a diffuser blend or used in a blend with steam distillation, this oil is highly effective at killing germs, mold and other microbes. It has the capacity to protect the health as immune system support, especially during flu and cold season.
How to dilute Oregano essential oil?
  • Due to its high content of the constituent carvacrol, it is a must to dilute this oil well and use it in low amounts when blending with it since it can cause irritation. Try using it with a carrier oil and blend it into a massage oil for the chest and neck when you feel a sore throat coming on or to relieve pain in joints. You can also make a DIY belly massage blend to alleviate stomach aches with soothing oils such as Orange- Sweet, Chamomile- Roman and even Lavender. And If making a DIY essential oil blend, it won't be necessary to use more than 10-15 drops of Oregano with other essential oils of your choice.

Useful

This oil is very strong but it is so good when used in small doses. I use oregano when I'm having a hard time breathing deeply, when I need something antifungal or antiseptic, and when I need some skin support.

Oregano a must have

I use to be a little apprenensive with oregano because its a hot oil. But it's such a power house for germs, bacteria, virus, mold and fungus, I now consider it a must have.

Potent and safe antifungal

Have used this for years now, once a week, on my husband's chest. He has a spot that has erupted into a rash throughout his adult life, but our once-a-week treatment keeps it away. I use one drop diluted in a few drops of coconut oil, otherwise it stings the skin. It smells fresh and strongly herbal. When used on very irritated skin, such as when the rash erupts because we have neglected our treatment for awhile, it still gets the rash cleared up beautifully in one or two daily treatments. Though it can sting and cause temporary redness, these only last a few short minutes, and are only superficial, causing no real irritation or damage whatsoever. Thank you, Edens Garden!
