Ask An Aromatherapist®

Ask An Aromatherapist

It’s been a long time since I began my essential oil journey, but I still remember what it was like starting at square one. It was like staring down a dark hallway, not knowing how far it stretched and unsure if taking a step forward meant tripping over something. As the lead aromatherapist at Edens Garden, I’ve come a long way but know there are many still on the dock waiting to embark on their aromatherapy voyage.

Whether you know nothing, a little or a lot about aromatherapy, we all need someone to assist us when learning about essential oils. This was our mindset when creating the Ask An Aromatherapist® email (aaa@edensgarden.com). It is a direct way to ask in-depth aromatherapy questions and receive personalized answers. Have a question on dilution rates? Trying to find out which oils are best for inflammation? Need to know which oils are safe for pregnancy? The answers to aromatherapy’s tough questions are now an email away.

In a seemingly endless sea of essential oil misinformation, it is our goal to provide dependable, accurate information so that you can get the most out of the natural, healing abilities that essential oils offer.

- Bella Martinez, Edens Garden’s Lead Aromatherapist

Hi Elizabeth! Yes, Citronella does contain the most significant amount of geraniol, as well as oils like Geranium and Lemongrass. You can view how much of a compound is found in an oil on their GC/MS reports found on their product pages.

I hope you can help me find an essential oil you carry with the greatest amount of geraniol as an ingredient. I understand it is in citronella, oil-of-rose and one other.

Hi Lynn, we recommend diluting and applying either Skin Love Blend or Geranium- Egyptian oil. Both these oils have the ability to get rid of dark spots and scars.

Hi, Do you have any essential oils that can lighten the skin – dark marks and scars on the face and dark marks on the thigh from legs rubbing together. I already have rose hip but was wondering if there is any other oils that can help. Kind regards Lynn

Hi Bella: I have used essential oils to try to improve my face’s complexion at no avail. Instead, when I have applied to my face, recommended EOs diluted with a carrier oil good for the skin, they have made my face worse and break out more, Do you have any recommendations as to an essential oil blend that may possibly work for me? I am an Edens Garden member and have purchased many of their EOs, since I love them. Thank you!

Do you have the blended essential oils for high blood pressure. If not, can you blend one on request?

Hello. Can you tell me if there are any oils to help lose weight and cholesterol. My problem is. I work 3 rd shift and my ankle is fused due to several breaks in the leg and ankle. So I have been trying to lose weight. But I don’t want to use prescription meds to do so. Thank you for your help

Hi Pat! Essential oils do not have nutritional value. They do, however, offer therapeutic benefits that can benefit people in ways that the plants from which they’re derived cannot typically.

Does the essential oil of a citrus fruit, e.g., lemon, have any nutritional value. Lemon peel contains Vitamin C. Does lemon essential oil also contain vitamin C?

Hi Carol! Yes, you can use carrier oils, including Rosehip, under your eyes. If you’re experiencing redness, it could be because the oil is slightly orange, but if this isn’t the case, it could be that you’re sensitive or allergic to the oil. You also can’t draw out oil from your skin necessarily, but you can use an alcohol-based toner or gentle wash to clear any excess oil on the skin away.

I bought the rosehip carry oil . I used it all over my face, and neck. I also put it under my eyes , Is this carrier oil ok to but under your eyes? If I used it a couple of times, have I damaged them? they seem redder than they were, but some imporvement. can i put cucumbers on the bags, or lemon juice, to help get the carrier oil out? Thank You

Hi Pete! Thank you for your kind words. You might try our essential oil room sprays. They are deodorizing and help to replace unwanted odors with that of beautifully aromatic essential oils. Our most popular room sprays include Chamomile Lavender and Fighting Five. Best of luck and happy reading.

Bella, thanks for the great blog. May I ask you for a recommendation? I’m bothered by the smells of certain books as I read, and I’m wondering whether an essential oil would be a good way of masking those. If so, do you have any suggestions about what oils would be best and what the safest/most effective approach would be? Thanks very much!
