- Ferula galbaniflua is the Latin binomial for Galbanum essential oil and its use dates back centuries to ancient Egypt and Hippocrates. Galbanum plants are large perennial herbs with smooth stems, shiny leaflets and small flowers. They contain resin ducts that exude a milky juice, a natural oleoresin. The resin, made by incisions at the base of the stem, is collected when dried and extracted by the steam distillation process.
- Galbanum is an aromatic gum resin that grows easily on the slopes of the mountains of northern Iran. Being a resin it will go well with other resinous oils and sticky tree oils such as Benzion, Frankincense, Fir, Myrrh, Opopanax, and Pine. For blends to heal and promote healthy skin try blending it with Myrrh, Geranium and Lavender.
- Galbanum is a highly versatile essential oil finding itself in blends to relieve skin issues from sensitive skin to acne to inflammation and redness. It also has an affinity to heal wounds, scars and some say that it can fade stretch marks over time. It is considered for its detoxifying properties in massage oil blends and aids with achy muscles by helping to increase circulation. It also works incredibly well in de-stress and relaxation blends.
- Some say that at first smell, the notes of Galbanum can be somewhat bitter and uniquely distinctive. But the initial notes are followed by a spicy, green, wood-like and balsamic aromas. It has also been referred to as having somewhat of an earthen aromatic with forest-like qualities.
- There are several ways to effectively use Galbanum essential oil and obtain its benefits, including 1.) For respiratory health, add 10 drops to your essential oil diffuser per 100 ml of water. 2.) Dilute 12 drops per 1 ounce of carrier oil and use in a wound healing, skin nourishing massage oil blend that also helps to repair scars. 3.) Add 6 drops to 1 ounce of Castille soap and 1 cup of Epsom salt for magnesium absorption. Add the mixture to your bath and soak up the goodness. 4.)
