- Carrot seed essential oil, Daucus carota, has numerous benefits for skin health and properties that are anti-aging, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. However, according to Healthline, despite a study that claimed Carrot Seed oil has SPF, the facts are that “protection from the sun is not one of them {skin benefits]. Like carrot oil, carrot seed [essential] oil has no known SPF, and should not be used as a sunscreen.”
- Carrot Seed essential oil is made via steam distillation. In steam distillation, plant material is placed in a still, water is added, then heat is applied to the unit. As water heats, plants release their essential oil, the oil rises with steam droplets that are sucked into a pipe and the oil and water are then separated. While it may not be possible to make Carrot Seed essential oil at home without a still, you can make aromatic hydrosol water that contains many of the same therapeutic benefits as essential oil. Click here for instructions on how to make your own hydrosol.
- There are several ways to effectively use Carrot Seed essential oil and obtain its benefits, including 1.) For aging skin, add 5 drops of Carrot seed oil with 5 drops of Cedarwood and 5 drops of Myrrh essential oil to 1 oz of Rosehip seed oil and massage into face daily. 2.) Add 10 drops to an Essential Oil Inhaler and take it with you for on-the-go therapeutic use. 3.) Create a spray by combining 20 drops Carrot Seed and 1 tablespoon 190-proof grain alcohol in a glass spray bottle. After a few hours, add 3 tablespoons of distilled water. Spray onto surfaces and in the air to refresh your space.
- We all know carrots are rich in vitamin A as well as carotenoids. Using this oil on your skin has shown benefits from its high content of antioxidants that help to fight aging skin. To use this essential oil on the skin, following our dilution chart, make a 1 oz blend with a carrier oil such as Rosehip Seed oil and other skin loving essential oils such as Frankincense or Myrrh, Sandalwood and Lavender. Use a combination that totals 12- 15 drops of essential oils and massage the blend into the skin under make up and at night before bed. Rosehip seed oil is best kept in a cool, dark place like the refrigerator to preserve its beneficial skin properties.
- Although some might consider the aroma of Carrot Seed oil to be slightly unpleasant with its woody, warm and root-earth notes combo, it is well worth considering in blends to improve the appearance of facial skin. Blended into facial massage oils, the aromatics of carrot seed essential oil combined with other oils can mask the rawness of the oil and can help to give your skin a natural radiant complexion. On top of its antioxidant abilities, Carrot Seed essential oil is an antibacterial and helps reduce issues of skin irritation especially on those who have sensitive skin.
